Hi Ovidu,
I've just setup Xcloner on a small site and it backs up the files & database to the local storage folder with no problem.
When I execute the cron job that also works of course and then it starts the offsite transfer but never gets past this message: 'AMAZON S3: Starting communication with the Amazon S3 server...'
I've left it going for quite a while but it never finishes and no files appear in my S3 folder. I have a couple of other sites with cron backups that work fine to S3. I'm positive I'm using identical authentication for this setup.
Is there a way to get any diagnostic details about what is happening with the S3 transfer and why it might be failing?
Thanks
Bill
HI Bill! Unfortunatelly it's pretty hard to debug the amazon connection, how large is your cron backup?
I would advise checking with your hosting support and see if they can help, it might be a firewall issue. Also, can you tell us how did you setup the cron process to run, which command did you use?
What could happen is if the backup transfer takes a long time between your transfer and the amazon cloud, the host could limit the script execution time and kill it before it actually finishes the transfer. My suggestion is to try with a database only backup as those are usually smaller, and see how it goes.

Hi Ovidu,
It's about 70 MB.
I am executing it by using the 'execute cron' link which is next to the cron job on the Admin->Cron page. .
Great idea about trimming the backup to test - I just tried a database only backup (10 MB) & that worked.
I'll go talk to my hosting provider!
Thanks again for a fantastic product!
Bill
