The free forums are no longer in use. It remains available as read-only archive.
I appear to run a successful restore, front-end of website looks fine, try to login to Joomla backend as administrator, but the account and password no longer work.
This same problem has been reported by several users in different postings before me, with NO solutions provided.
Please provide a clear, step-by-step, documented solution to this bug.
Thanks.
Hi Henry! Can you tell us if you get any login error when trying to login or simply the form reloads with no message?
How are sessions stored on the new site(check the session handler variable inside the configuration.php), is it files or database?
If it's files, then you need to make sure your sessions.save_path path is writeable.
If it's the database, open up phpmyadmin, clean the jos_sessions table, try and check if any records are created.
There might be multiple reasons why your login might fail on a new environment, do you remember having a Joomla extension/plugin that might alter the login process?
If you would check the main joomla.org forums, you will notice there are some other threads there with different solutions provided http://forum.joomla......?p=1833379

Hello Ovidiu, thank you for your response. Here are the answers to your questions:
1. Error: "Username and password do not match".
2. var $session_handler = 'database'
3. I try to use phpmyadmin to edit the new mysql database I created as per the instructions but it won't accept the login credentials either
4. No. It has to be xcloner, nothing else has changed. I could log in fine right before the restore and cannot immediately after.
5. The environement is identical, just a new folder in the exact same GoDaddy shared hosting environment, no variables have changed.
Regarding 1. that usually means the user and pass you are trying to login with do not match, they are usually the same as on the original site.
If it still fails, try and reset your Joomla admin password from phpmyadmin, http://kb.siteground.....sword.html
Regarding 3., if you are sure they are correct and it still won't let you in, I would advise contacting your hosting support for advice.

OK, Problem solved.
For some unexplained reason, some step during the xcloner restore process resets/disables/breaks the Joomla admin login credentials requiring you to reset it at the database level. The fix is documented in the following link:

Thank you very much.
Henry
I'm only just discovering the rest of the damage, databse related it would appear:
1. I use Jforms (Joomla component) for our "Contact Us" form. That is now broken.
2. The Joomla "user registration" is broken.
3. What is next?
I need someone who is familiar with xcloner to re-run a proper restore for me.
On the plus side, I have a current xcloner backup and my setup could not be more vanilla:
LAMP, Joomla 1.5, GoDaddy Linux shared. All standard.
This has been a disaster as we are in the middle of running a variety of marketing campaigns to our website.
I am happy to provide you with the necessary login credentials.
Thank you,
Henry
Our contact form is here http://www.xcloner.c.....m/contact/ if you need help with the restore
