So, I have backed up my Joomla site http://www.mydomain.com with XCloner, and now I want to clone it into subdirectories for later translation into other languages.
Then, for the cloning process (1st screen) I enter:
URL: http://www.bes-poker.....ode.com/de
and
FTP: bestpokerbonuscode/de (on my server, different websites are placed in subdirectories, and this is the directory name)

Then, the application copies the three files into the directory allright. Then I click on continue, and I get to the second screen:
Install directory: bestpokerbonuscode/de/
Install URL: http://www.best-poke.....de.com/de/
My SQL server: localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock
Mysql username:
Mysql password:
Mysql database: the values from my server

Ftp server: localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock
Ftp user: my FTP username
Ftp pass: my password
Ftp path: bestpokerbonuscode/de/

and then I get this error message:
Directory bestpokerbonuscode/de/ is not writeable or does not exists! Could not continue...
But the directory does exist on my server, and the writing permissions are set to 777.

Where's the mistake ???

Looks like the problem was the Install directory which needs to be the absolute server path. I have found that by creating an document_root.php in the subdirectory, when I open this php file, I get this as server path:
/homepages/41/d235298914/htdocs/bestpokerbonuscode
I then ran XCLoner with those settings, I had a website under http://www.best-poke.....ode.com/de now, but the main website was offline. I checked the configuration.php, found that one entry was changed there to /de, so I deleted that and the main site was ok again.

Still, I need to know what kind of settings I must use to avoid that from happening. Problem is that the explications as to what to enter in the various fileds are confusing to me:
1st screen of cloning process:
Website Url:
So this needs to be http://www.best-poke.....de.com/fr/ right?
Ftp hostname:
At 1und1.de, this is http://www.mymainwebsite.com for me
Ftp username:
ok
Ftp password:
ok
Ftp directory:
So here, do I need the name of the directory on my server or, again, the absolute path like /homepages/41/d235298914/htdocs/bestpokerbonuscode/fr/
Incremental transfer:
Looks when I tried the cloning with this option checked, the cloning process freezes at some point. If I uncheck it, the cloning process goes on, but later I get an error message saying that there were errors with the database, and the clone is incomplete.
2nd screen of cloning process:
Install directory:
/homepages/41/d235298914/htdocs/bestpokerbonuscode/fr/ should be correct?
Install URL:
http://www.best-poke.....de.com/fr/ here, not sure whether this is correct?
Incremental database import: I set this to yes
Ftp server: localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock ???
Ftp user: my FTP username
Ftp pass: my password
Ftp path: bestpokerbonuscode/fr/

Files transfer and configuration:
left all options unchecked here

Install through FTP - incremental, as recommended
Ftp server: http://www.mymaindomain.com
Ftp user: ok
Ftp pass: ok
Ftp path: /homepages/41/d235298914/htdocs/bestpokerbonuscode/fr/ ??
It says "ftp root path of where Joomla will be installed" here, so I need to use the absolute path?

So, with those settings, I get error message:
Couldn't change directory to /homepages/41/d235298914/htdocs/bestpokerbonuscode/fr/, please verify that the ftp location exists or use the "Install files directly" option!

When I use the direct transfer option, I get to the next screen saying files successfully copied. The when I click to complete the database, it gives me error warnings about mysql files already existing.

I don't know what to do anymore, and frankly, I am disappointed with the product as a whole. In the product description it says it is all that easy, but there is no proper documentation for XCloner, and all those variables are totally confusing me... Looks like you realy have to know much more about servers and stuff to get this right.

Can someone from the admins please contact me and help me out?

Hi there! Using the ftp restore option requires indeed some server knowledge, that is why for unexperienced users we added the "Install files directly" option which you should use for restore

Also, the "Install dir:" variable needs to indicate the full server path to your restore directory and it needs to be writeable, usually if you put the restore script inside that directory, the default value should be just fine
