Hey there – I’ve been testing your XCloner plugin and wondered if you’d be able to answer a few questions for me. I’m trying to FTP the backup files to another server and while the backup performed without a hitch, it didn’t transfer to the other server. So my first questionis, what is the appropriate FTP path?
/var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mybackupdirectory/
- Should it start with the /var/ stuff or just /httpdocs/ or httpdocs/ …
- Should there be a trailing slash?
Also, will the FTPing only work when cron is set up, or does the whole backup including FTPing occur during the manual backup, as well?
Thank you for making this available to the public for free!
Hi Mike! To get the correct ftp path for the new server, simply login with a normal ftp client to that server and follow the path you want to reach, that will be the ftp path, in your case it might start with httpdocs/ .
The trailing slash can be added or not, it does not affect the upload status.
The automated ftp transfer works only in cron mode, however XCloner also has this feature also in the View Backups section, Clone/Move buttons, for when you want to directly transfer the backup/restore script
Hope it helps! Ovidiu

That did the trick, thank you! Now, I came up with two more questions (sorry!). 1) All of my uploaded files (uploads >> 2010, 12, 11, 10 directories) didn't get backed up, so why/how should I got about getting those included, as well? 2) I'm running WordPress with Mult-Site enabled, so i'd also have to get the blogs.dir directory, its sub-directories and the mu-plugins directory backed up, as well... is that possible? Thank you again for the quick response! (If it's easier to explain, is there an option to have the whole site starting from httpdocs backed up?)

Ah, dang it! It already had the path of httpdocs/. When I do it manually, everything gets backed up and transferred 100%, but going through cron it only does a partial backup. Maybe it's got something to do with memory_limit or max_execution_time (I'm backing up about half a gig right now)? I'll test around some, but any pointers are much appreciated! On a separate note, as someone who's used Backup Buddy and VaultPress, this is right on par with them. I actually prefer this over BUB, because it's standalone... and there aren't any frequent point releases

So I found 10 errors all related to my sitemap plugin, which displayed this..
TAR error: File '/var/www/vhosts/mysite.org/httpdocs/sitemaps/mysite-org.xml' does not exist
TAR error: File '/var/www/vhosts/mysite.org/httpdocs/sitemapsmy-site-org.xml.gz' does not exist
It did this for 5 sub-sites on my WP/MS installation. When I disabled the plugin network-wide, the errors still remained. Other than that, no other errors. In fact, my mu-plugins directory was backed up this time around, as well. What's weird is that my blogs.dir and uploads directories were omitted during the cron backup. I tried backing up only the files instead of the db+files combo for 4 tests and each time those directories were missing, yet when I do the manual backup everything is there, lol. Anywho, advice is much appreciated as always. Happy New Year!
Did you added something in the Cron config, Exclude files input area that could related to those folders being excluded? Also, if you are running multiple cron to backup your sites, make sure you run them at different time intervals.
As for the sitemap error, it might be a permission error, aren't you required to make this directory httpdocs/sitemap writeable for the sitemap plugin?
Happy New Years to you also! Ovidiu

Waow, this *the* quickest support forum I've ever seen! The Exclude files input area is completely blank and I haven't done anything out of the ordinary to my cron config. As far as the XCloner cron goes, I'm literally changing the start time for each test, so that I don't have to wait several hours for it to run -- my other cron runs in the evening, so there shouldn't be conflict there. As far the sitemap plugin goes, the directories have to be writeable when you first run it so that it can create the initial .xml and .xml.gz files, but then it'll actually prompt you to change the permissions back to 755 on the backend.
