I've got a bunch of Wordpress sites that are all configured identically.  One of the things that's installed is kstats reloaded,  which tracks visitor stats.

I'd like to move these sites into a new site hosted on a domain configured with WP MU (WP 3.0) and retain all of the plugin settings and data, as well as content.  But I don't want to copy any of the theme or plugin files.  (They're already installed on the destination site.)

What's the best way to do this?

If it's complicated, perhaps an option could be added to this plugin specifically designed to let you do this: move standalone site to MU site, and vice versa.

Thanks

Hi David! It might be possible to do this with XCloner, you could generate  a specific backup from each site where you exclude the plugins and themes files, however i am guessing the WPMU uses different table prefixes for each subsite, so you would need (after you generated the original backup) to open each site sql backup file located inside the archive(administrator/backups/database-sql.sql file) and replace the current prefix with a unique one so on import you get a separated table prefix for each site.

A WPMU expert might help you better getting the backups configured properly so you can restore them as WPMU subsites.

Yes, I've already figured that out.

The regular tables are prefixed by wp_ while the WPMU tables are sometimes prefixed by wp_2_ (for site #2).

But common tables have the wp_ prefix -- but that's not where I want to import the data!

So I export the data from specific tables, with the DROP TABLE clauses, then I edit the table names, then I import that file.

It's slow, but it works.  Not sure how it could be automated except maybe if I could stick sed in the export or import stream.

Thanks

There might be a way to automate the XCloner.php restore script so when it reads the database it will automatically replace the tables prefix

Yes, but it would have to have an input field that says what to change the prefix to.  And it would only need to apply to some subset of the tables, not all of them.
