I have done a backup and now I'd like to "restore" to a new folder -- new domain -- on the same host I'm on.
The restore function involves FTP which -- is that really necessary?? Or is there some ther thing I can do, such as move the backup file to the new folder/domai and then restore from within that WP site??
Any tips or ideas or better yet specific step-by-step for the techno-challenged?
Thanks in advance.

You can do a manual backup as explained in our wiki here https://docs.xcloner.com/#/ , no need to use the ftp form.

To clone my webside afd-nrw.portal.de to a second subdomain afd.portal.de with own Mysql- Databank on the same server funktion well.
But still they are run in combination, so when I change something for example a menu-point in one of the projekts for example afd-nrw.portal.de the changes are also made to afd.portal.de!
I tried to change in joomla administration konfiguration the server Databankname and login name, but also the administration side of both projekts works synchron!
What have I done wrong?

When restoring, did you used a different database name when asked on the restore screen?
That's probably the issue, and if it's not the case, and you used a different database name, then probably the main config file did not get updated, so try and do that manually through a ftp client, it should help.

- Follow our simple instructions to restore to a new site, using the temporary address provided by your new host as your alternate Site URL. You’ll need to install a fresh copy of WordPress at that address before restoring.
- Save the alternate site, and run your restor
- When your restore is finished, edit your DNS records so that your permanent address (YourGroovyDomain.com, in this example) points to your new host. If you’re not sure how to do this, contact your domain registrar and new hosting provider for help.
- Wait a few hours for DNS changes to take effect, and then check out your site. You should see the same familiar site, now served by your brand new host!
