The free forums are no longer in use. It remains available as read-only archive.
I don't see why XCloner would not work, simply install it, adjust the backup start path and mysql details, create the temporary folder administrator/backups/ under your magento root and you should be good to go, check the online manual for the full setup details or ask here, would be happy ot help.
I did a small tutorial on oscommerce /tutorials/how-to-backup-and-move-an-oscommerce-site/ , so it applies generally to any other site.

On reading the above posts, I am trying your standalone solution for a Magento site for backup to S3, but have encountered some issues.
The configuration for s3 appears to be only available on the cron?
In the cron-S3 configuration, you can enter an upload directory - is that the location of the backup file, namely administrator/backup?
There is no ability for disabling foreign keys - a major requirement for backing up/restoring magento database?
How would it work - ie does it first make a tar backup file, store it in the administrator/backup folder and then transfer the tar file to the S3 bucket (if the s3 option is activated)?
Yes, the amazon s3 upload mode is only available in cron mode. The upload directory can be anything as it gets created on the amazon s3 bucket, it's good to use a suggestive name to keep things organized.
I am not very familiar with the magento foreign keys, if you give me more details on this i might be able to look into adjusting XCloner for this.
How it works: first a tar archive gets created on the local server, inside the Backup Store path you've setup, then if the amazon S3 option is checked, it will get transfered to the S3 bucket. Make sure you check the XCloner cron log, all processes are detailed there.
Hope it helps! Ovidiu
