The free forums are no longer in use. It remains available as read-only archive.
Oh Ovidiu, this is a Salutary lesson in what NOT to do, I have just put a HUGE reminder to myself NEVER to break this rule:
*** When making changes to any file, copy and save the original in Safe folder until you're SURE new one works...***
because the .tar backup file contained ALL eight wordpress sites (it was 271mb big), and I only wanted the first one, I opened this file in 7z, deleted the other sites and saved. I think it saved all the other sites as well because this site was the root site, the others were all under it as add-on domains.
Now the message I get is:
"Could not continue, unable to read the clone backup
file! Please make sure you copied the backup in the same directory as
XCloner.php"
I can only think it's because it's not the same as the original.
If, using 7z, I put back all the other files and save again, will xCloner be able to read it? Or because I made changes using 7z is it now unusable... in which case - am I stuffed or what?!
Ovidiu, I found the original backup and uploaded it to the root directory.
I did everything else as you suggested. I never touched that mysql database in the admin/backups file, it's still there.
But when I tried again to install, I now get this message:
"The database details provided are incorrect and/or empty. Unable to connect to mysql server"
Shew, I'm at my wit's end! And you must be shaking your head at the ignorance of newbies…
What can the above message mean?
Also, when I click the "Check phpInfo", I get "Error establishing a database connection"http://goodguidereport.com/XCloner.php?task=getinfo"
…
Just tried again, now I get this:
Warning: require(/home/good458/public_html/wp-includes/load.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/good458/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 19
Fatal error: require() [function.require]:

Ovidiu, what if I remove the Wordpress installation using cpanel?
The mysql error usually indicates something is wrong with the provided mysql details, did you create them on the new server? Try and recheck them with your hosting support, also note, on cpanel systems, the mysql user and pass get prefixed with the cpanel username.
You can remove the Wordpress installation if you like, however the error you have there is caused by incorrect permissions, try and reset permissions to 755 for all folders, and 644 for all files inside your new install, again, your hosting support might help you better with the permission denied issue
Ovidiu
Hi there Ovidiu.
My host found a backup on their server, and restored my site; we couldn't get XCloner to work - I think I made too many errors.
Thank you anyway for your patient support.
Tomorrow I'm going to do my own backup again... and this time I trust I will do everything right!
thanks again.
