I have a linux test server, and wonder if it would be possible to set up a crontab on this one to trigger the xcloner backup routine on a remote server?

Would it work to enter use lynx on my local server like this:

lynx -source http://link_to_backu.....config.php

If so, I wouldn’t depend on the various production servers with the websites offer crontab?

Hi Knottulf, yes, this is possible as we also use this option often, you simply need to add the server running the cron ip address to the XCloner Config Allowed ip addresses option from the remote host to it's allowed to run that cron link.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Thank you very much! This seems great!

However, testing the basic functionality, I cannot trigger the action on the remote server through lynx. Using an ordinary browser on my pc works, though. Using lynx on the server, nothing happens.

Testing a little more, it turns out that Safari mac triggers the backup, but neither Firefox mac nor Lynx ubuntu does.

I am sure missing some simple point, but which?

Try the curl executable, and make sure you log the output to a file, like

curl http://mycronlink > cron.txt

Thanx again. used same url as with lynx, but the output file was empty.

This is the output to screen:

% Total    % Received % Xferd  Average Speed   Time    Time     Time  Current
Dload  Upload   Total   Spent    Left  Speed
  0     0    0     0    0     0      0      0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:--     0

You will need to contact your hosting support on this as something is probably not working properly, could be the domain mapping, if they allow it. If you like, feel free to open a support ticket and send me the site and console access to investigate the issue.
