Compat.php file missing as reflected in error.php

Hi, I successfully restored a backed up joomla on my new server together with its database. But when I tried to access the domain, it showed me internal server error 500 initially. When I checked the error file, it shows that compat.php file is missing. Hence I uploaded this file from the joomla package to the path reflected.
Subsequently, I try to access my domain again and I see this error "Unable to load session storage class: database"
What is the error due to?

Not sure if it helps, but do a search after this error message on joomla forums, like here http://forum.joomla......38;start=0
I would advise to first upgrade Joomla to the latest version to see if it helps! Ovidiu
