I have ran the backup manually and the "cron" job in the admin panel fine – it works as should.

But the cronjob is not kicking off.

I have tried running these command locally via SSH:

1) /htdocs/dev/administrator/components/com_xcloner-backupandrestore/cloner.cron.php

Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted

2) /htdocs/dev/administrator/components/com_xcloner-backupandrestore/cloner.cron.php?config=devbkcron.php

No input file specified

3) /htdocs/dev/administrator/components/com_xcloner-backupadrestore/cloner.cron.php devbkcron.php

Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted

Is this something I need to increase on the server side or within the extension or is there something else causing this problem. Any suggestion/solutions?

So hosting says it's due to a php.ini setting.

I've increased the upload_max_filesize and the post_max_size to 8G. The php.ini is located under / and under /administrators. The script is still failing. Is there somewhere else I should be placing the php.ini file for the cronjob to work?

Here's the full error:
Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /htdocs/administrator/components/com_xcloner-backupandrestore/cloner.functions.php on line 1503

try and increase the memory_limit setting to 64M and see if it helps!

The hosting says my package has a 30M memory limit. Then again, another Tech said it was 80. But either way it doesn't seem this would affect the backup; it's only looking for 8M or 35 bytes.

That's correct, from this error "Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted" you only seem to have allocated 8M of memory, so try checking again with them ...
