Hi,

our website will be hosted by One.com and they do not provide the possibility to do cron jobs.

Is there a way to do automated backups triggered by another server (e.g. my Home server). Or do I really have to do this manually ?

Is there also a possibility to do the backup directly to a ftp server, without having to save the backup locally first. Our webspace is rather limited, and if I have to leave half of it open to be able to make a backup, that is not so efficient.

Kind regards,

Luc

Hi Luc, yes, you can save backups on an external ftp server, please check the XCloner Config->Cron tab for the config details.

As for cron scheduler, you can use the cron weblink provided by XCloner to call it from another location, check the details inside the XCloner backend->Left menu link.

Regards. Ovidiu

Thank you very much Ovidiu,

I will use the cron weblink to start the cron job externally.

With respect to the FTP server, my question was not clear enough I am afraid. I meant: can you do a backup to an ftp server when doing a manual backup. Of course now I can use this cron weblink, this question is not so important anymore.

When doing a backup to the external ftp server, will xcloner first make a local backup and after that send it to the ftp server, or will it immediately being sent to the ftp server without needing a local copy first.

Kind regards,

Luc

Yes, you can use the Move option from the View backups screen to move the backup archive to a ftp server, this option however is not automatic, so you need to fill in the transfer details.

In regards to your other question, XCloner will first make a backup on the local server, then send it to the ftp server, then delete the local copy if specified....

Ovidiu,

I have setup my SFTP server, it works fine with filezilla.

I now try to manually move a backup file to the SFTP server, I can fill out the ftp details, but when I click continue, I get a blank page. I selected the SecureFTP option in system settings.

When I look at the list of backups, it is still there, and nothing arrived on my server. I have no idea what went wrong.

As for cron scheduler, you said I can use the cron weblink provided by XCloner to call it from another location, I found following in the :

wget -q http://website/path_.....cron.php

is suggested. I know what the adress is for my website, but how do I find this path_to_xclone_folder ?

Can I also test this by copying the address in Internet Explorer/Chrome/firefox ?

Kind Regards,

Luc

Ovidiu,

could it be that the Secure FTP that is supported actually is FTPS (ftp via SSL) and not SFTP (FTP over SSH).

That would explain the failure with FTP, I setup a SFTP (SSH-server).

Kind regards,

Luc

Hi Ovidiu,

I was able to create a cronjob, and to execute it from the panel itself (give it a name, save it, execute it, add IP to "Cron Allowed IP's").

The backup is being created, but apparently I get a Login Failed, when trying to FTP. Not sure why this is (I tried the IP address instead of the dns name, but that also did not work).

So it gets down to an FTP problem, it is important to know I setup a Secure FTP (via SSH not via SSL).

Do you have any suggestion ?

Kind regards,

Luc

If you are using sftp for your remote server, make sure you update to that ftp option inside the XCloner Config System tab.

Ovidiu,

I did enable that Secure FTP option inside the XCloner Config System tab (is this FTP over SSL or FTP over SSH ?).

That would not be the problem.

Kind regards,

Luc
