Hi everyone,

I'm new to xCloner, so I have some questions about it. I'm administring a site, created in Joomla and now I need to move it to another host. I've used xCloner to backup my site files and database. My site has all standard components, plus forums, members, payed members, and similar. I didn't create this site, it was allready created when I started to work on it.

So, my question is regarding my back up, is it enough? when I restore this beckup on new server, will I have all the components of the site, including members and forum topics and everything?

Thanks 🙂

BR

I guess the best way to answer that would be for you to attempt an actual restore :), but yes, this is what XCloner does.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Tnx, I'll try it now. But I have a question about this restore too, if you don't mind 🙂

I've backed up everything using xCloner and downloaded a copy of my backup. Now I''ve installed Joomla on my local mashine and xCloner and tryed to restore the site on local mashine. But I have to fill in details about site, host, user and pass where I want to move my clone.

Does this mean that I don't need to install joomla on the new host account and xCloner to restore my site, but just to move the clone from my local mashine on the new host, using xCloner? Or, do I have to install Joomla on the new host, then xCloner, upload a copy of the backup and then do the restore? If it's this second, what do I fill in for host, user, pass,..when I allready have copy uploaded where I want to restore it.

Sori for silly questions, but I'm new in this, and the backup is pretty big so I don't want to wait thinking that it's uploading big backup and in fact it doesn't work. Also, when I try to install joomla on remote host, the next button doesn't work...so I'm pretty stucked with this 🙂

Tnx for your help

M

As indicated on the restore wiki, there is no need to pre-install Joomla, just create a new database and follow the XCloner restore process.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu
