Thanks for the great tool.  Fabulous.

I successfully cloned my dev site and moved it to the root for production, however all the files in the Remository document management database are corrupted and unable to downloaded.  The Remository module stores my documents in a table of datatype Blob.

Do I need to delete them all from the production database and reload them?

Is there a facility to move them from the dev database to the prod database in one swell foop?

What can I do differently to ensure that this doesn't happen in the future?

Will this problem disappear if I store the docs in an FTP directory instead of in the database itself? (That's an option)

Thanks,

Hi there! I am guessing something might have gone wrong during the database import, have you checked if the actual records of the remository doc management table were restored?  I would advise to try and reimport the database with the Character set to the files option set to utf8 from your XCloner.php and see if that helps; also make sure you increase the site php.ini option to a larger value if possible. If you have access to a ssh console, try maybe using the mysql manager for the database import as i am guessing the binary data is pretty large.

Is there any specific error in your remository module when trying to access the files? It might be something else and not the actual data inside the database.

For future, it would be indeed a big help to keep the files on the actual server, instead of the mysql storage mode, it will also help you with the database performance.

Regards! Ovidiu

Thanks for the quick response, Ovidiu.

I wouldn't doubt that something went wrong with the import.  I struggled for a couple of hours until I got the right combination of parameters to complete the restore process.  I've been around long enough to realize that I know just enough to be dangerous.  My background is in assembler, and this is my first foray into web "development".

I had another couple other issues with my innaugural backup & restore experience that is probably setting related.

1) There were some text conversions in some of the articles.  Funny characters replaced some of the apostrophes and double quotes.  It affected slanted/curved apostrophes, not the vertical apostrophes.  The characters were inserted via copy/paste from other sources and it probably has something to do with the font.  Also, the letter A with a circle above it showed up seemingly randomly at the end of sentences.

Since there wasn't that much data, and I wanted to do some reformatting anyway I fixed that all by hand, but is there a setting that will minimize or eliminate that erroneous translation?

2) The Jevents users cannot create events any longer.  I'm assuming that might be related to your previous response.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Also, the error message received when attempting to download the file comes after the file is downloaded.

From Adobe Reader: There was an error opening this document. The root object is missing or invalid.

From MS-Word: Word was unable to read this document.  It may be corrupt.

Thanks,

Jeff

Have you tried following my previous advice regarding utf-8 encoding? That should fix at least the character issue

Thanks.  I suspected they might be related.  I will try that the next time I backup and restore.
