Site does not work properly after restore from online to XAMPP

I've a strange problem. I've a Jooma 2.5.8 site online which I backed up with XClone 3.2 I restored it local to my PC (Windows 7) with XAMPP 1.7.3. I can go to the backend of the local site. The frontend however shows the string $slide){ ?> on the place where a slidshow should appear. The site works further OK.
What could be the cause of this problem?

Try and enable the php short_open_tag option http://www.php.net/m.....open-tag , if that doesn't help, disable all third party plugins and switch the template to default to see if it helps!
