Please advise. I receive the following error on either zip or tar option chosen in config.

Backup failed! Please check that you have support for the zip utility(/usr/bin/zip or /usr/local/bin/zip) on your server and the path you set it's corect in Configuration, or choose the Tar archive type!

The host server supports the zip and tar (host http://www.goddady.com)
but what do need to do to resolve the error? put zip or tar programs in the directories noted by the erorr. How?

Hi there! Try and change the backup type to TAR in the JoomlaCloner Configuration and if you still have problem uncheck the 'Active' checkbox near the tar/zip line, then try again!

Also, use as paths for server utilities the defaults ('tar' for TAR type and 'zip' for ZIP type)
