I'm currently testing the free trial of XCLONER. It looks to have a lot of great features, but I'm trying to do 1 specific thing. Is it possible to:

***Use XCLONER to back up the database every hour?

OR . . .

***Back up the database whenever there is new activity to the database?

If so, how?

Hi there! Yes, XCloner can be used in combination with a cron manager software to backup your database everyhour or at any other time you setup in your cron manager! If you look in the XCloner Config->Cron tab there is an option which refers to the backup type, you can set that to Database only, then use the cron script we provide("Look in the XCloner backend left menu->Cron link for further info") and add it in the cron manager to execute that task

Let me know if you have further questions! Regards, Ovidiu

Hi admin! I figured it might have something to do with cron -- is there a tutorial anywhere?

I went to the cron tab in the configuration, and filled everything out (changed backup type to database, entered ftp info, etc).

Now what? Am I suppose to go to the cron jobs in cPanel and add the following line with a time set to every hour?

/usr/bin/php /path_to_backup_dir/cloner.cron.php

Admin: I did what you said and it's not working.

Here's what a HostGator support admin said:

"This is because you are not passing an overwrite arguement to mysqldump and it's stopping and asking if you want to overwrite the existing backup. Since you are running a script from cron that is supposed to be automated, and it's asking a question and waiting for a reply, this is what will cause it not to complete. You can modify your script to remove the backup file first, or add the the format strings for the time (tempname=$fdir$fname-`eval date +%Y-%m-%d_%Hh%Mm`.sql - the %Hh and %Mm = Hour:minute)."

I'm not sure if the above applies to XCLONER. Any suggestions?
