Restore onto empty site only?

This may be a daft question, so apologies in advance.

I've managed to backup and restore my site to a new domain. The second domain is where I want to test out new things and to obviously have as a backup.

If I want to make another backup of my original site or to restore back to the original, do I have to clear out all the files from the domain using FTP first, or do the restore scripts wipe everything clean prior to restoring, or does it overwrite?

I've maybe not worded this well but I hope you get what I'm asking.

Thanks in advance,

Ally

Hi there! The restore script will be able to overwrite all the existing files with the ones from the backup, however this will also depend on the existing permissions! In this case, i suggest when making the restore to use both ftp and "Install files directly" option from the Joomla.Cloner.php screen! A clean restore would indeed be better but only if the restore doesn't go as expected!
