If i want to place a particular component on all my sites, all i have to do is install the component on my cloning site, mark everything else not to clone, ( everything except the new component ) and away i go.

Is this correct ?

Unfortunately no, beside the component files, you will also have to copy the attached tables that come with it(if any...) and also the references to it that Joomla it keeping mostly in the jos_components tables

While it can done as i explained above, if there aren't major modifications to it, then it would be better to simply install it as normally on all the other sites

Hope it helps! Ovidiu
