I'm having a problem with restore on my VPS.
When I restore the files and folders are owned by nobody/nobody (according to my host). Instead of user/nobody. As a result, I can't edit any files.
This also happens if I use Joomla to install a template, then I can't edit the template files.
How do I get Joomla user to create files so that my user account can edit them. My host is clueless, blames it on Joomla and their version of apache and says the only way around is to give me root access and have my own nameserver!
Any help on this issue, I know it's beyond Cloner, but probably related.
Thanks,

Hi there! The issue you are having is a common server issue related to file ownership! If you have used JoomlaCloner to restore the files, then in order to preserve the ownership you get through the ftp account, you need to make the restore in ftp mode, and not by using the "Install files directly" option from the Joomla.Cloner.php screen!
Second, the template install issue is related to Joomla, while that is fixed in Joomla 1.5 upcoming series by including a ftp session upload mode, the current versions of Joomla 1.0.13 and older do not support this!
The best way would be to either ask your host to do a "chown myuser -R /home/myfolder" for your html directory(this would indeed require root permissions to execute the command), or use a web based tool for editing like JoomlaXplorer!
Another way would be to change permissions to 777 upon the files you want to edit by using JoomlaXplorer, then do the rest through your normal routine!
Hope it helps! Ovidiu
