Database errors while restoring

Still got some troubles to get up and running with XCloner, I'm afraid...

I developed a site on a local server, now I wanted to clone it to a live server. Creating the backup (manually) went ok. When restoring on the live server the files restored ok. But restoring the database generated an error for every table. The types of these errors:

Error message: Table 'jos_banner' already exists
or
Error message: Duplicate entry '2' for key 1

I suppose this has something to do with the Joomla installation that was already present on the live server - a fresh standard installation of 1.5.10, no changes made. One would expect there should be some way to overwrite the tables, yet I cannot find it.

Hope someone can help me,

Regards, Frits

Try and use an empty database on restore and see if you have anymore issues!

Do you mean empty Joomla tables or a totally empty database, without tables at all?

I found out I could eliminate this problem by activating the Drop table option (drop table if already exists and create new). However, I have not restored one single site, it starts to drive me mad I'm afraid.

I developed a site locally and want to clone it to the location http://www.websitewerf.nl
I get these error messages:

---
Connected to Normal ftp server http://ftp.websitewerf.nl - Active Mode

Moving source file restore/XCloner.php - uploaded 100.00% from 36408 bytes

Warning: ftp_nb_put() [function.ftp-nb-put]: HTML/XCloner.php: Append/Restart not permitted, try again in /var/www/g37565/websitewerf.nl/HTML/administrator/components/com_xcloner/cloner.functions.php on line 561

Transfer details:
Attempting to Clone backup(s):
backup_2009-04-16_11-40_localhost:8888-sql-drop.tar
---

Please can you tell me what I can do?

This helped, thanks a lot. Only one more thing to go, though...

If you visit http://www.websitewerf.nl you can see that special characters, like ë, are not rendered correctly. They show like ? signs. This is not in my original/local site.

Any tricks for this one?

Regards, Frits

Hi Ovidiu,

utf8 didn't work but I guess the answer must be somewhere in this list of character sets. I'll give it another try. Thanks again, Frits
