I cloned one of my sites after some initial trials and errors, everything seems fine both front-, and backend. However, when I try to generate a backup in the cloned site I get this message: Your backup directory /home/oleros/public_html/minebackups is not writeable or does not exists!
I have chcecked the folder 'minebackups' and it is writable. I have tried both direct and ftp file transfer.

Try to reinstall JoomlaCloner on the new host, the backup path might be incorrect, usually the old config values are kept after restore and they need to be updated!
