Restore/Move Troubles - Folders aren't uploaded

Hello. I just moved my Joomla site from the beta directory to the main directory. I cloned it, and then restored it to the root directory.

I got no errors reported running the script, but when I tried to load up the site I got an error message from Joomla saying it couldn't find the Template.

Strange. I took a look in the template folder, and there was the folder for my template. Opened it up, and found it nearly empty.

Thinking that weird, I used FTP and downloaded the template from the old folder, then uploaded it to the new Template folder off the root directory.

Access denied. I couldn't upload or change anything in this folder. I tried changing permissions on the files, and was denied.

So then I logged into Joomla's admin interface and used JomExplorer to view the Template folder. I found that for some reason this folder is "owned" by "Apache" instead of the normal user account. I deleted the folder from the Joomla admin interface, and the uploaded the folder manually via FTP and everything worked.

My concern is that several other folders created during the restore process are also "owned" by user Apache, meaning I cannot changed/delete/add any content to these folders via FTP any more. I am also worried other important files are missing, just like my template files were, and its just a matter of time until something goes wrong because of this.

Any idea why this happened? How do I change the user on these folders/files back to something I can access via FTP?

Hi there! This usually happens when you use the "Install files directly" option checked on the Joomla.Cloner.php screen instead of ftp! Next time, try and use the ftp mode!

Second, if you created a full backup of your site, no files should be missing, so if you did a full backup the backup might be incomplete! I suggest you return on your original site and set these options in JoomlaCloner Configuration:

1. "Manual Backup" set to Yes
2. "Backup type" to TAR
3. uncheck both "Active" checkboxes

After this create a new backup and try to restore it using the ftp method on the Joomla.Cloner.php screen! Also try and use an empty location on restore so you don't run into permission issue on writing with your previous restored files!

Regards, Ovidiu
