I'm slowly getting the hang of this. I have now succesfully created a back up and cloned it onto my local server however my menus don't seem to be coming across properly particulaly all the submenus are missing. Also I have some strange characters appearing on my polls module.
Any ideas as to what oculd be going wrong? I've tried repeating and recreating the clone several times. The only effect this seems to have had is to create errors in the alst few fields of the database saying the entries ahve invlaid null entries.

Hi there! The strange characters you have after restore might the result of a faulty encoding, try and set the "Character set to file" drop down box to "utf8" on your Joomla.Cloner.php restore screen, then try to restore again!
As for the menus, do you use some special component for handling them? Please post a screenshot here of your restore location, if possible attached also the page source and send please your original site url to see the menu in action!
