my problem is that i can over-write any of the files in my directory through FTP. For example, i installed new template and wanted to over-write the header but it wouldn't work... Keep in my that all my joomla directories WERE Unwriteable like adminstrator, components, etc... but I fixed that by giving 777 permissions.
However, I am still unable to overwrite the generic template header file with my own customized one.
Another thing I noticed is that my Session Directory still says Unwriteable and the path is blank.
Somebody, anybody, please help me if you know what my problem is...thanks! - Johnny

Hi there! The session path issue is a problem that comes from your php.ini configuration, you will need to contact your hosting provider to fix that!
Second, about the template, if you installed the template from the Joomla backend, the files permissions under it might not allow the script to overwrite them through ftp, so to fix this use JoomlaXplorer to edit those files, and also you could change permissins to 777 to all files from that template directory, after you should be able to overwrite the files through ftp!
