My backup without the database included takes hours there are only 6000 files and about 75mb. What can I do to speed up the backup?

The backup speed depends on your server load and considering the size you have there for the full backup it will take a while, also i would advise leaving the backup type to TAR and uncheck both Active checkboxes in your JoomlaCloner Config and see if it helps!

You can also try to setup automatic backups to avoid waiting for the backup process to finish
