Hi, I have just added xcloner to my first site and it looks to be a well thought out piece of software, so thanks for making it available.

I'm not sure that I understand the part about multiple databases. The site in question has two databases and when I look at the MySQL tab of the configuration page, I see that xcloner seems to have got the correct details for the one for Wordpress, so no problem there.

But when I try to generate a backup, I see the list of tables in the WP database, (so that I can exclude any I wish to) AND I see "Include Extra Databases". This list has two entries, the first for information_schema (which I know is an internal MySQL db) and the second for the WP database ! My other database is not included at all.

If I have understood things correctly, I should also see my other (non-WP) database there too, shouldn't I ? I must say, I'm not sure how xcloner would back it up because there doesn't seem to be anyway to get its username & password in to the system.

In addition, should I include the WP database from the list or is it implicitly included anyway ?

Have I just misunderstood this feature, or is there something that I'm missing ?

With thanks in anticipation,

Roger

Hi Roger! In order to see additional databases, you simply need to assign the mysql user you've setup in XCloner Config->Mysql tab, so it has at least reading permissions.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Hi there Ovidiu, thanks for your repsonse, but I'm afraid that I'm not sure that I understand. The Config->MySQL tab is filled with the correct details for the db that is the WP db. There is a button for "Backup Multiple Databases" and I have it set to Yes. Am I supposed to add other details ? If so, where ? There is only one set of fields for db config info and that is taken up with the WP db info.

I am sure I am misunderstanding something here, but I can't see exactly what !

Can you expand on what your response meant please ?

Thanks !

The mysql user assignment i was referring to, needs to be done from your mysql manager panel, so for each database you want to backup you need to add your mysql user you've setup in XCloner Config, you might need to ask your hosting support to do that for you if you are not allowed, what control panel are you using?

Ahh ! I think I see what you're getting at. Let me see if this is right ...

What I have is two databases and each of those has a separate database user associated with it which allows access via the app.

I think that you are suggesting one database user that has access to both databases - or indeed an additional "xcloner" user - is that right ? I guess that would work.

BTW, my host users Plesk.

Yes, that is correct, one mysql user that owns 2 or more databases in order to see them listed in the multiple database list

Right - the only problem is that Plesk doesn't seem to allow this configuration (unless anybody knows differently), in fact it seems to positively encourage you to use separate user names for each database.

I will refer this to my hosting company and see if they can do the necessary behind the scenes.

Thanks for your help.

I am also on plesk and I have multiple databases setup for my vhost domain.  It looks like XCloner can only see WordPress databases.  I have several other databases on this vhost (same database server, different database user as per what plesk requires).  Can XCloner only backup other databases that are explictly WordPress only?

Hi there! As i mentioned previously, in order to backup multiple database from the same mysql username(the ones you setup in XCloner Config->Mysql tab), you need to assign that user to have reading permissions on those extra databases.

Unfortunately it seems Plesk does not allow to assign multiple databases to a user, so unfortunately you can't backup extra databases by using the same mysql user. You will need to adjust the mysql user in your XCloner as well as the database you want to backup to get the other databases included.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Hi folks, I should have updated my initial query sooner - sorry. Anyway, I did refer this to my hosting company and they did set up the "Xcloner" userid with read access to both databases and it has been working fine ... until today !

For some reason, the second data base is no longer appearing in the list of databases 🙁

Now why should that be ? It doesn't look like has changed anything but I am checking with them. Has this been updated recently ?

With thanks in anticipation.

Roger
