We are trying to backup to a CIFS mount. It keeps telling me that the directory is unwriteable, i have checked permissions on the folder on our Windows file server and I dont have any issues seeing the folder from Linux server. Any ideas??

Make sure the folder has writeable permissions for all users, which flavor of Windows OS are you running?
