I've used xcloner for a long time for many wordpress sites, especially since we have moved to new hosts http://fxsystemhosting.com
For our latest move, when I install the latest version, it says:
Connect failed: %s
It doesn't prompt me to change the admin password like it used to.
Still, it allowed me to do a full backup and so I did, but when I restored it on the other host, it failed.
Now I'm starting the process over - and want to make sure it doesn't fail again.
Any ideas? Is it something with the new update?
Cannot find where to upload screenshot in post, here's a link to the image:

I am seeing this same behavior, using WordPress 3.8.1 and Xcloner 3.1.1.
PHP version 5.3.27
MySQL version 5.5.30-cll
I have no other active plugins.
After I activate it and visit the Xcloner plugin page in the back end, I am never able to set a username/password for Xcloner.
Three warning messages appear on the Xcloner plugin page:
Warning: mysqli::mysqli() [mysqli.mysqli]: Premature end of data (mysqlnd_wireprotocol.c:553) in [my server root]/wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/common.php on line 64
Warning: mysqli::mysqli() [mysqli.mysqli]: OK packet 1 bytes shorter than expected in [my server root]/wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/common.php on line 64
Warning: mysqli::mysqli() [mysqli.mysqli]: (HY000/2000): mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using the old insecure authentication. Please use an administration tool to reset your password with the command SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD('your_existing_password'). This will store a new, and more secure, hash value in mysql.user. If this user is used in other scripts executed by PHP 5.2 or earlier you might need to remove the old-passwords flag from your my.cnf file in [my server root]/wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/common.php on line 64
Connect failed: %s
As I say, I'm not able to create a username and pw. When I click the Logout button, I'm kicked off of the Xcloner plugin page to my backend dashboard.
line 64 of abovementioned common.php:
$_CONFIG['mysqli'] = new mysqli($_CONFIG['mysql_host'], $_CONFIG['mysql_user'], $_CONFIG['mysql_pass'], $_CONFIG['mysql_database']) ;

The answer to this post I think clarifies what might be going on. However, on the server where I have WordPress installed, I can't get to /etc/my.cnf to changeold_passwords=1 to old_passwords=0.

That did the trick. Thanks!
Just one question: when I've used Xcloner on sites in the past (mostly Joomla ones), there was an Authentication tab and the first step after installing Xcloner was to create a username/pw in that Authentication area that I'd afterwards use to access Xcloner on the back end of the site. In this version (3.1.1) in WordPress, there's no Authentication tab and as far as I can tell there is no actual logging in or out as an Xcloner user.
Here's an image of the tabs, showing there is no Authentication one:
If I click the Logout button in this version, I end up at my WordPress Dashboard. Have you removed Xcloner user mechanism in this version? That seems like a major change, and I see nothing about it on your site here.
The first person who posed this thread seems to be indicating the same thing.
