E-mail Backup Cron Job Failure

Dear Liuta and Folks,
I was happily utilising the XCloner wordpress plugin to send me regular backups over e-mail via a cron job.
Then I upgraded to WP v3.1.3 and Xcloner from v3.0.2 to v3.0.3 - no problems were indicated during the upgrades.
The cron job started failing.
If I ran the previously configured backup jobs from the Xcloner control panel in Wordpress admin it worked and the backup via e-mail is sent.
I found a simple solution was to create a new backup job and then configure cron in my hosting control panel to run the new job file.
I am still unsure if this is expected behaviour subsequent to an upgrade.
