I have been unable to get the clone function to connect via FTP from host to host. I use the same ftp sign on as with a ftp client but the connection fails. How do I debug this connection problem?
BTW, this works great on the same host server for creating a test environment and I have successfully used it to manually migrate a site from one host to another. Excellent tool. I just would like to get the host to host working like it did on the same host.
Try uploading it using a free file upload site like http://www.filedropper.com/

I was able to complete the manual upload process; however, some of the files did not transfer. The support team informed me that there was no wp-load.php file in the restore and that the wp-config.php file was empty. What would have caused these files to be dropped from the installation? Also, what happens to the .htaccess file needed to configure the WP url rewrites? Did I miss something in the documentation?

OK,
(1) I've determined that the XCloner script is timing out and not completely loading the site into the archive as the reason for missing files on the install. It would be nice to have some type of confirmation that the script ended normally. Please consider adding a parameter to support multi-part archives be created before the time out is reached.
(2) The hosting environment prohibits outgoing FTP. I imagine that this is somewhat typical in a shared hosting environment. The support desk suggested that the FTP application be developed to run from the destination server. This makes sense as most hosts have no problem with incoming FTP connections. Of course it would require building a standalone script on the target machine that would execute the archiving script remotely then initiate the FTP session to download the package and extract it.
(3) I have used another tool found here: http://interconnecti.....databases/ which is an excellent tool for fixing hard coded URLs in the database. It would be helpful to have this tool integrated into the XCloner application.
This is a nice tool in concept and it works fairly well for small sites. When the site gets big, the time out creates numerous problems which are not obvious to the end user. I have found it useful for cloning a "small" test environment at the same hosting company. It needs work to meet the requirements of web hosting companies and large site webmasters.
