Hi I have sold some of my websites and are using your plugin to tranfer the wordpress sites to the new owner. My question is this.

I followed your guide to the point of "cloning" it to the new ftp directory. I did this by downloading and uploading required files to the new hosting account however I cannot access the xcloner.php in my browser!?

Is this because the domain name was recently transferred to the new client and the DNS has not updated yet? Anyway of accessing xcloner.php?

For future sites is there a way I can avoid this issue? Thanks

Hi Wayne, this blog post might help, it explains how to use the computer OS hosts file to access the domain from the new server when DNS is not yet switched.

An alternative to that would be to use a preview url from your hosting server, but my initial suggestion would work best for you. And also, as a note, make sure you call the restore script as XCloner.php, notice the upper case letters.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Hi Thanks but I cant seem to edit the hosts file and save it cause it says it is in use. How do you save it once you have edited it?

Thanks for your help.

Make sure you are editing that file as Administrator, it should help, what operating system are you using on your computer?

Windows 7

When I use notepad it tries to save as a .txt which is incorrect as the hosts file does not have an extension so I tried using notepad ++ but the file is always in use no matter what I close down app wise, hence me wondering how you actually edit and save the hosts file...
