Hi I have been reading the forum to try and find the answer which is probably something in htaccess. None of the links work in the site which has been installed into a subdirectory for testing purposes. I tried changing the permalink back to the default and the page links (all the menu links at the top of the page) then work but not the products -that is the reason I cloned the site to test a shopping cart plugin upgrade. I found this advice in the forum to change in the htaccess but it breaks the entire site,

replace

RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

               with (because the site is in a folder)

RewriteBase /subdir/
RewriteRule . /subdir/index.php [L]

I even tried replacing subdir with the name of the folder- bad idea!, site is at http://spicetolife.com/brass/, I left the default permalink structure in place instead of the custom which is on the original site to see if anyone can help me, thanks, Carin

The issue you seem to have is related to the .htaccess code you have for the new site, could you paste here the full current code of it?

RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f

K, try and replace the .htaccess code with this one

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /brass/
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /brass/index.php [L]
</IfModule>

My bad, please replace this line from the code above

RewriteRule . /brass/index.php [L]

with

RewriteRule ./brass/index.php [L]

notice the space between . and /brass/index.php

with that code I get a server response -page not found, with the other code with the space, I get

Internal Server Error

I did notice that the current htaccess does have the space in it. So this is very confusing to me... thanks so much for giving it a go....any other ideas? Thanks again, Carin

OK, try then this code and see if it helps, make sure you upload it to the brass/ subdirectory .htaccess file

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

I am sorry, i am probably sending you an incorrect htaccess code, my suggestion is to post your issue on the main wordpress forums, you should be able to get some proper support there for this case.
