I get and Error 500 for attempted restores on both a shared (Hostgator) account and on a local Mac Bitnami WordPress install.

I have the directory setup, have the backup TAR file, have the xcloner.php file there (no TAR.php available in my install – is that the problem ?), and have all permissions set to 777.

Running xcloner.php just results in the error page – nothing else.

Any ideas on how to proceed ?

Apply 750 or 755 permissions on your restore folder, then try again!

Thanks for the reply.

I tried both.  Nothing different with 755.  Error switched to 403 when trying 750.

Do I need the TAR.php file ?

Ok, found the right TAR.php and XCloner.php and tried all combinations of folder and file permissions (777, 750, 755) – no luck.  Still getting a 500 server error (except with 750 when it changes to 403 Forbidden).

The documentation seems to be saying that it's simply a matter of the .tar file and the 2 files above being in the folder then run XCloner.php.  I even tried to "untar" and extract the .tar file so that the files are all simply there.  I get the same 500 error on running XCloner.php.  This is all on a standard Hosthgator account.

Is my backup (.tar file) corrupted maybe ?

Any other ideas ?

I really need to this work … thanks so much in advance for any help.

Please check with your hosting support, should be an easy fix, check your site error log to see the exact error message beind the 500 error.
