I've attempted to restore to a different location and everything seemed to go OK. All the directories are there and everything appears correct in wordpress admin. However, the page layout is all messed up and, in particular, the menu has degenerated to a bullet list and the side bars seem to be missing with all the content just sitting over on the left side.
Any ideas?

Could be a css display issue, what is the url to the new restored site?
Thank you for the reponse. I hope you can work out what's wrong.
The site I have copied is at http://www.theendles.....ublishing/
the copy is at http://www.theendles.....om/ebooks/
What I was trying to do was copy the main site so i could then edit it into a new replacement for the shop rather than start form scratch.
Carl.
PS I tried a number of backup plug ins before I tried x-Cloner. None was as reliable and easy to use. Congratulations on a great product!

OfflineSeems the server throws a 403 error when it's trying to load this css file http://www.theendles.....stom.css , try and apply 644 permission on that file and 755 to it's parent folder to see if it helps!

I tried changing permissions, which were different from the original files, but that didn't work.
So I cleared everything down and attempted to restore again from scratch.
The restore didn't restore the database first time(not sure why) but when I looked at the web site the layout was correct - just that there was a 404 error.
I then restored the database - and selected to skip the file restore. After that the web site looked wrong again and the file permissions were wrong too.
I have manually corrected a number of file permissions on the newly restored version but so far no luck.
Any further ideas?

Thank you!
It's working now. If you hadn't identified the nature of the problem I don't know that I would have solved it.
I'm not sure exactly what fixed it but I cleared down everything, deleting and recreating the main directory and dropped all tables in the database and did a clean restore. I ticked the box for restore permissions on the file restore which I might not have done before.
The only glitch was this. The permalinks in the Wordpress admin were properly changed but I had to do a re-save before they applied to all pages.
Now everything is OK and I'm confident about further restores.
It's fantastic being able to clone a site like this.
