I'm about to change hosting providers and have started to practice the moving process. My live site is still intact and I've been experimenting on another domain.
XCloner does the backup of my live site every night so I always have the latest backup file.
When I do the cloning to another domain AND on the same server where my live site is, everything seems fine.
When I do the cloning to another domain BUT to my new hosting provider, the cloning runs well, but the site is extremely slow. Minutes pass by before the main page loads. The sidebar widgets sometimes load sometimes don't. I can click on every post, they load (after another couple of minutes) and all pictures are in place.
I use the latest WP: 3.2.1, and the latest XCloner plugin.
Both hosting providers are in the US. They're the largest ones in their kind (though I'm not really satisfied with my current one - that's why the move).
My live site domain is registered where the website is hosted, but the new site uses an "external" domain, and I've set the Name Servers. I've tested several domains, different cloning processes. The worst result was: Error message, the best result: Site is up, but slow.
I've tested the speed of the new host by installing a clean WordPress - no speed problems.
Database size:3,7 Mb
Backup size: 230 Mb
I've checked my new site with tools.pingdom.com and it gave a strange result: Only the first two files loaded. Nothing else. The first two were the main site with www and without.
I've done the DNS check as well: dnscheck.pingdom.com - everything went fine.
Is there a way to import the backup into a clean install? If no solution is given to the above problem, this might help.
Dear Ovidiu,
I contacted HostGato. They helped me and we could identify a plugin that slowed down my site. After cloning my WordPress site to HostGator, the WordPress Flippingbook plugin behaved in a strange way. So I turned it off and the site was quick again.
Now I have to find a fix to this plugin because basically it's a good and useful one.
Thanks for your help.
