OfflineWordPress has scheduling functions built in. Why doesn't XCloner use them?
For example, if you used wp_schedule_event, it would no longer be
necessary for the site admin to have access to a CRON interface (via
their web host's control panel) or SSH/Telnet access.
Other WordPress backup add-ons use the built-in scheduler (which
actually just uses CRON behind the scenes), including WP-DB-Backup.
The scheduler functionality is documented in the Codex.
Thanks for your attention, and thanks for an otherwise awesome add-on!
Jeff
Creating a full backup, files+database, requires extensive server resources, memory and time, so adding this to the WP cron would be an option, however not an indicated one as most probably a full backup will timeout, this is why we advise our users to try and use a server based cron manager.
Further more, XCloner runs standalone from the wordpress code, so in case the wordpress site fails, you still have access to the backup/restore functionality by accessing the XCloner plugin folder directly.
Hope it answers your question! Ovidiu

I see. Still, it would be helpful to at least offer the option. There are still a lot of hosting providers that don't provide access to any kind of CRON interface or terminal access for their shared hosting accounts. Anyone with that kind of hosting will look elsewhere for a schedulable backup solution when they realize XCloner won't work.
There are third part plugins like this one http://wordpress.org.....ol/ which could faciliate the cron setup on servers where a cron scheduler is not available.
Hope it helps, Ovidiu

Thanks! I'll check it out.
