I have a similar JSON error. What to do?
I've got to say, that I already made a working backup a few days ago and I was also able to clone it. Now I installed a new plugin to easily activate and deactive noindex and nofollow on posts and I get this error. Don't know if it has anything to do with it.

I have xcloner working on 4 sites on the same hosting platform – all with the same setup.
3 are working fine – I can do manual and cron backups.
On one site xcloner is not working:
"There was an error retrieving the JSON data from the server, try again or contact the developers!
Details: error — undefined
JSON url: index2.php?option=com_cloner&task=refresh&json=1&startf=200&lines=10514&backup=backup_2012-02-13_15-23_www.website.co.uk-sql-nodrop.tar&excl_manual= "
What is going on. I do not believe it is a mysql permissions problem or anything of the sort.
Xcloner is working fine on 3 other sites with exactly the same setup as the one that does not work.
Any suggestions, please?
Thank you,
Mike
From the looks of the error, you are running to a server timeout which might be caused if you are trying to backup some large files.
Try increase the max_execution_time php.ini variable limit for your site, as well as decrease the 'Files to Process per session' option to a lower number in XCloner Config System tab
XCloner can run on almost all servers that support PHP, however dealing with execution timeouts is depentend on each hosting setup.
