I tried a site restore and copied the zipped backup to the website's directory, and the tar.php and xcloner.php (took the latter two from the fresh extension file, latest version from your download section). But the restore failed with an error message saying that the backup file does not have the expected file size. Could this be because the  backup was generated with an older version of XCloner?

No, it doesn't matter the XCloner version as long as it's a complete backup, have you checked if the backup archive size matches the one from the original site?

Now I have successfully restored 2 small sites, but one bigger site still gives me trouble.

The restore process runs ok but after the database restore should be finished, the  Please click here to continue with database import… message re-appears and when I click,  the restoring process keeps restarting over and over again. I tried the incremental SQL import option – same problem.

by the way the manual pdf I downloaded from your site is missing all the screenshots for me.

Try unchecking the restore incremental options for both the database and files processes, it should help.

In the restore screen, when you click on one of those options, they change color, but there is no info on whether the options are activated or not. Looks nice, but not very practical. So, what color woukd they have if deactivated?

Did you check the downloadable pdf manual - the version I downloaded has no screenshots showing?

I tried the restore with the options you suggested - not working. I still get the

Configuration updated! Please click here to continue with the database import

message at the end, but when I click the ...continue... link this time, nothing happens. When I try to open the admin backend of the site afterwards, I get an error message: Table 'db462390979.foq40_session' doesn't exist ...

When I have no Joomla site installed on the server location, is there a way to restore the site locally on my computer and then transfer via FTP? How does the database setup work when I do this?

Alternatively, would it help if I set up an "empty" Joomla site for the domain, install the XCloner plugin there and then restore from the empty site?

If the database transfer fails for whatever reason, you can always import the database backup manually, you can find it inside the administrator/backups/database-sql.sql restore file

Hope it helps
