New discovery:

I can login to webadminister database for the Joomla demo site, no problem.

I cannot log in to webadminster the database linked to my cloned site. I get the following message:

You probably did not create a configuration file. You might want to use the setup script to create one.

That usually means the joomla configuration.php file was not updated with the new mysql details, try and recheck that, was the database data imported properly?
