Hi,

I was hoping one of the more experienced users could help me out here with a problem I have please?  For the best part of this month I have been stuck on trying to move our website from one hosting provider to another.  In the end i installed xcloner 3.1 and took a copy of the datbase and files, we moved our service provider and I have Joomla installed.  On our new service provider I installed Joomla and have installed XCloner 3.1, but I cant see anywhere where it says how to restore the backup I took of the website?

in the restpre part of XCloner I can see the following but my backup is not visible? which is obvious because i never took a backup with this service provider?  All I want to do is be in a position where I can upload my database and files to the new Joomla.

How to restore a backup on different locations INFO

Step 1 - move your backup to the restore host

Hi Ovidiu,

Many thanks for the quick response, the steps seem pretty easy my only question is that the both the database and files that I copied got downloaded in a zip file for example backup_2012-07-04_11-14_www.xxxxxxxxxx.co.uk-nosql but the file in the example you show is a tar file and not a zip file?  I'm sorry but I'm not very knowledgable  with xcloner/joomla.

I can see I need to take the php files from the backup i took of the database but i still dont understand how to upload the tar file when I only have a zip file? or is the tar file within a folder in the zip file?

The tar archive is the zip file, name confusion, so you may upload that archive to the restore location

I have googled it and could see other people with the same problem but no resolution? I retried it and did not tick the Skip files restore, will attempt to restore only database. and it looks like it has completed successfully but i think this is wrong? I also unticked using ftp.  But now if i browse to /clone/administrator/backups i cannot see a sql file?  would it work if i manually copied the sql file from my local machine to this directory using ftp?

Try and check if the backup archive is complete, does the size match the one from your original location? If so, try and open it on your computer, is the administrator/backups/database-sql.sql file there?

Hi,

I can confirm that the size of the zip file on my computer matches the size of the file that I have uploaded and inside the clone folder, I can also confirm that if i unzip the folder i can see the database-sql file inside administrator/backups.  I tried to install both the files that I downloaded but both failed with the same error.  The first one is 201MB and the second one is 1.3MB

backup_2012-07-04_11-14_www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk-nosql.tar

backup_2012-07-04_12-10_www.xxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk-sql-nodrop.tar

Try checking the disk space on your restore host, how much is there left available? If all fail, then simply extract the backup archive on your computer and upload the files manually, afterwards restart the restore process with the Skip files restore option checked
