One additional question about the restored site.  My main page is resolving with my domain name properly, but my posts and pages are being presented as my IP address followed by page id and ? symbol.  I know I can fix the page id display, but why is my site no longer using DNS and showing up as an my IP now?  any ideas what was changed after the restore?

Update your wp-config.php file to reflect the new site address, you will find there references to the old url.
