Is the path you are entering valid? After reinstalling XCloner, without making any changes, what is the value of the Backup Start Path option?

Ovidiu,

I will uninstalll it and check to see the value of the Backup Start Path.

This is interesting. When I leave the path blank (it adds the forward "/" slash on it's own), here is what I get:

Backup Start Path Check: OK (C:/HostingSpaces/tedxxxxx/blog.tedxxxxx.info/wwwroot/wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/)

Backup Store Path Check: OK (C:/HostingSpaces/tedxxxxx/blog.tedxxxxx.info/xclone_backups)
Temporary Path Check: OK (C:/HostingSpaces/tedxxxxx/blog.tedxxxxx.info/wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/administrator/backups)

When I add the xclone_backups folder to the root of blog.tedxxxxx.info xcloner is fine with it. When I add administrator/backups to either the root or the Wordpress root xcloner gives an error.

Could this be related to my install being on a Windows plateform?

Thank you for your help.

Ted

Before you do any changes to the XCloner Config, as per install instructions, first create the administrator/backups/ temporary directory under your wordpress root, afterwards adjust the Backup Start Path.

Hope it helps! Ovidiu

Hi Ovidiu - I uninstalled and deleted all files. I created the administrator/backups folders at each level (I had created several of them before) - above the root, in the root, in the first level of the wp-content.

Any other ideas?

Unfortuantelly no, if you can open a support ticket I would be happy to look and fix the issues you have there.

I am having the exact same problem as Ted. Hosting with godaddy, Window IIS 7.  I tried to post the screenshots, but they won't paste, and when I tried to save them as images, they get all distorted, black with colored vertical lines....

I am switching over to a new hosting company, but I need to get a backup working on the new hosting before I get rid of the godaddy one. (I already have xcloner all setup in the new hosting site! no problems!)

In xcloner info tab I get these errors:

\\administrator\backups incorrect or unreadable
the path [Backup Start Path/administrator/backups] needs to be created and be writeable in order for XCloner to work properly

/ incorrect or unreadable
the backup start path needs to exist and be readable in order for XCloner to start the backup process

/wp-backup unwriteable
needs to be writeable in order for XCloner to archive backups

I have wp installed to root. I checked with godaddy for the proper path, but when I type it in, it gets changed to / in xcloner general tab. I also checked in file manager that all the folders exist and have read/write permissions, which they do. My hosting acct is Windows IIS 7.

Any ideas? Sorry if I left out any necessary info...knowing me it is probably something dumb....Thanks in advance!

Hi Doris.

I installed it on 4 different Windows sites (two of them test, a blog and webpage). I changed every parameter I could that I thought might make a difference. My conclusion - based on no hard evidence - is that there is a Windows server parameter that needs to be changed/set.

On a fluke, one of my installs started working (fluke) but I could not manage to replicate it on the other installs.

Right or wrong, I concluded this is a Windows Server issue. Not that it won't work on Windows Server, only that I do not know exactly what I need to do in order for it to work properly.

Let me know if you make any progress....Ted

Hi Ted!

You would think the developer would be looking into this instead of trying to charge you for support when their product is not working right from the start. I myself don't see much sense in keeping something I can't use unless I pay for it when others use it for free…I can't get it working at all on godaddy … but it works fine in my new hosting account off the bat, no problems!

I wonder if there is something in web.config that needs to be changed…have you tried there?

WinkHave you looked at the php files at all? I know a little about php, gonna take a look…

but my best guess is that it is something with the group/user/permissions with the Windows server, the current user does not have the right permissions, but darned if I know how to fix it. Or maybe with the slashes/backslashes in the paths, if I'm not mistaken, they are different from Windows to Linux.

only time will tell...

Inside the wp-content/plugins/xcloner-backup-and-restore/common.php file there is a function that adjusts the paths automatically called realpath(), lines 38 and 39, remove that function by doing a search and replace after "realpath" and see how it goes, should look like this:

$_CONFIG['backup_path'] = ($_CONFIG['backup_path'])."/";
$_CONFIG['backups_dir'] = ($_CONFIG['backup_path'])."/administrator/backups";

Again, i can't guarantee it will work if you don't use the proper absolute paths to your Wordpress install, on windows they usually look like C:/...

It's only as much as i can help without having access to your location, i've tested and developed the plugin on windows server and works without issues, the only thing i could explain why it doesn't work for you is that either the used paths are not correct, they are not absolute server paths or it could be a realpath php issue which the above indication should help!

Cheers, Ovidiu
